Dani G Ultra-low budget well accomplished film. Not fancy, not spectacular, not a very striking cast, but a good experiment by the filmmaker Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Logan D To escape a stalker, Sawyer moves to Pennsylvania and works in an office complex. A therapist advises her to sign up for a 24 hour evaluation which results in Sawyer giving away her rights to leave for a week. Or did she sign in knowingly? Soon, she is questioning her own sanity. The film has issues but I enjoyed it. I can't list them as that might ruin the movie. Suffice to say I found at least two major plot points hard to accept. That said, Foy is great in causing us, the audience, to question her sanity with her character. I thought Pharoah was out of place. He removed me from the narrative when he was on screen. I didn't even realize Violet was Juno Temple! There is a cameo I didn't expect. Shot on an iPhone Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/02/23 Full Review Soujanya D This movie being shot on iPhone is the not the single best thing of this movie. From the very beginning an unsettling and eerie environment is presented to us. As the movie progresses i began to doubt the main character. But man was i wrong. This movie is a reflection on society as how health care has become a scam these days. And how unsafe it is for anyone to be out in the world as well. U might become the interest of a stranger in seconds. The movie's ending was both alarming and sad. I do recommend everyone reading this comment to watch this movie without going through the plot on Wikipedia. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review John S Not bad at all fun. Did a good job Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/15/23 Full Review GM M Who cares if it was shot using a phone? It should and could have been much better. Laughable in parts. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Being insane is one thing but becoming unsane is a whole new experience Filmed entirely on an iPhone (you can barely tell) director Steven Soderberg makes a trippy psychological thriller starring Claire Foy She's a woman named Sawyer, she's had to relocate in order to escape a stalker for two years She volunteers to a 24-hour commitment to a treatment center But Sawyer finds out she's trapped there and afraid of slowly losing her sanity, she keeps seeing the face of her stalker everywhere she goes All the doctors and nurses start to question her mental health It's interesting watching the filmmaking aesthetic since this is filmed like from a fish eye lens, almost like a VHS format There's some cool effects like some overlapping and the screen reverberating All that claustrophobia adds to the uncomfortableness of it all Claire Foy is really excellent in the lead role It is like we are slowing losing our minds as much as Sawyer wondering how much is reality vs how much is fantasy It's hard to look away from the screen seeing her frustration trying to escape from this box of psychological deceit along with the paranoia Plus this place is full of bureaucracy when it comes to other patients' well-being locking up sane people for profit or curing them until the funds run out The real horror comes from the emotional turmoil Sawyer suffers Some stuff doesn't always stick the landing and parts of this don't add up but Soderberg crafts a very cool new style of filmmaking messing with our perception of reality and really knows his actors This explores the toll that stress can have on the human experience with a unique engrossing psychological study You feel the situation feeling you're confined to an environment such as this A movie that almost hearkens back to those old school 1970s-esque thrillers Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

tt stern-enzi WXIX-TV (Cincinnati, OH) Hopefully in the right hands, this is obviously an example of how technology can be used to make something bold and imaginative. Mar 4, 2019 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald It's a clever film. And for all Soderbergh's reservations about Hollywood, it's also confirmation of his mastery of its assorted genres, although he does suffer from an urge to see if he can juggle them all at the same time. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 27, 2018 Full Review David Stratton The Australian Yes, Unsane is rather silly - but thriller lovers can have fun with it. Rated: 3.5/5 Apr 20, 2018 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Soderberg's manipulation of his audience is masterful, and his formal choices have a throwback appeal, curiously enough, leaving Unsane to feel like a late-night VHS screening of a cheap but memorable horror show.
