Sheila Johnston London Evening Standard Saucereyed and hedgehog-haired, Brittany Murphy thinks, wrongly, that she is adorably kooky as the party girl. Khadidja G Dakota Fanning, best child actress of ALL TIME. I don't understand how she got no nominations for this role, she was incredible. Brittany Murphy got no business being dead It's such a good music, I'll never understand why the reviews are so low. Very touching story. The last 30 minutes are so goddamn sad but also not really. I hadn't watched this movie since like 2010 and all I remembered was the tea cup scene, Dakota Fanning and Brittany Murphy being amazing, the comatose dad and the movie somehow making me really sad. I will say, the Neal plotline stops this movie from being a 5 stars. I hated everything about his character. I was so happy to see Molly tell him off cauz yeah him just using her as a muse is gross! I don't care that he bought her dad's guitars, I hope that she doesn't go back to him Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/07/25 Full Review Mel B This is an insanely beautiful movie about grief and what it means to grow up and deal with your problems and it's all wrapped up in a fun and sweet showcase of girlhood- every time I've watched it over the last 20 years I've cried! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/25 Full Review Clarissa B So underrated, don’t listen to the critics on this one. It is a beautiful and moving exploration of girlhood that was ahead of its time. If you need a movie to heal your inner child this is the one! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/25 Full Review Solotiana V i can't believe i slept on this movie for so long. i don't get why the score are so low, this movie was so well written and moving Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review Kei t Absolutely pains me how critics have scored this film so low, because upon a recent re-watch, I found it to be a brilliant, heartfelt exploration of grief, healing, friendship, and the pitfalls of self-actualization and "adulting," as the grown up kids are referring to it these days. Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning are both fantastic in their respective roles, believably playing a childish adult and an adultish child at constant odds, who are learning from each other how to grow and heal from the things that hurt them. Their chemistry feels so natural between them and that makes both the comedic and sentimental bits involving them shine all the more. The teacup scene towards the end lives in my head rent-free, driving home that this film is not simply a silly buddy comedy but as a tale of both healing your inner child after years of suppressing your heartbreak and grief, and using your own life experience to help others heal in turn. This movie has become another go-to on my list of "chick flick" comfort films. Brittany Murphy's talent and charm was underappreciated in her time, but I'm happy to know that others nowadays have come around to really appreciate her and her body of work. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/25 Full Review Anna S A gorgeous film with fantastic acting from Brittany Murphy and Dakota Fanning, both of whom make engaging, spirited and multifaceted characters. The storyline makes for a heart warming and inspiring experience. I aso love this film for its set design, costuming and soundtrack. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/25 Full Review Read all reviews
