On the streets of London, Mike is hustling to get by. Roadside evangelizers won't let him sleep in peace, his slippery friend won't pay up the money he stole, and before long, he finds himself in trouble with the law. As he struggles to reintegrate into society, shuffling between gigs as a line cook and a trash collector, he must balance a newfound sense of community with his own itch for self-destruction.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Urchin is an emotionally raw debut from Harris Dickinson, whose introspective direction and clear-eyed compassion find a perfect match in Billy Dillane's unflinchingly authentic performance.

This back and forth, tick-tocking between episodes of hope and defeat, doesn’t amount to a conventional story arc, but Dickinson...maintains an unerring pace, kicked along by unpredictable bursts of Alan Myson’s electronic score. Go to Full Review

It may be tonally all over the place as cinema, but in his first film, actor turned director Harris Dickinson cuts a direct path to the heart and certifies star Frank Dillane as a major talent. Go to Full Review

Dickinson indulges in some showy movie moments in the final few minutes, unnecessarily at odds with the gritty street-level realism of all that goes before. Go to Full Review

In writer-director Harris Dickinson’s simpatico feature-film debut, the homeless exist on the periphery of indifference. Go to Full Review

Oct 21 A non-comedic charmless version of Bojack horsemen with bizarre music choices and a lack of a story. Only watch this if you want a peek at a washed bloke attempts to straighten his life in England. See more Oct 19 The acting was raw and incredible to watch. This film highlights the plight of the homeless. See more Oct 18 Hard hitting and not a lot of joy. The movie does a great job portraying real experiences for marginalized people. Not what I was expecting but thats on me. The cinematography and color paint different colors in the previews than they do in the film. I love this movie- I take full responsibility for not being prepared. See more Oct 18 The film does not show some fantasy about people on the margins of society. It shows the reality! Love Frank Dillane and Harris Dickenson. See more Oct 18 A spectacular lead performance & Harris Dickinson crafted a stellar first feature See more Oct 16 Went in for Harris Dickinson's direction, but came out loving the lead actor stealing the show. Didn't like the ending. Surprised by the pleasant humor in such a dark subject. Recommend! See more Read all reviews
