Jay Weissberg Variety Jan 30, 2018 Full Review Adam Nayman Cinema Scope The cinematography of Marius Matzow Gulbrandsen is so beautifully framed and textured that it's possible, during the most mesmerizing stretches, to believe that Valley of Shadows is a great debut. Sep 28, 2017 Full Review David Rooney Hollywood Reporter There's real confidence in the filmmaking, creating a shadowy world that washes over you, in which a boy gets lost in his nightmares, perhaps learning that the monster all children fear is a force to be protected. Sep 15, 2017 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground The gothic horror tradition is alive and well in moody, brooding Norwegian effort Valley of Shadows, which proves as haunting and gorgeously gloomy as its title suggests. Jul 16, 2018 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews An intriguing if rarely completely successful piece of work... Rated: 2/4 Oct 4, 2017 Full Review Jason Gorber Birth.Movies.Death. The title Valley of Shadows speaks to its diaphanous nature, a difficult to pin down, ephemeral tale that nonetheless speaks to a greater illumination that helps cast its form. Adam E Great movie. A bit slow for some pepole but i liked it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/04/23 Full Review ella m Great film! Would recommend! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review brad p ‘Valley of Shadows' Is a Grim and Fascinating Fairy Tale Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If you're the type of sick freak who enjoys surreal journeys into the psyche of confused children trying to process the tragedy of loss in the spooky forests of Denmark then this film is for you! I loved it to death but audiences often get offended by narratives that require them to do any of the thinking. If you're among the 97% of viewers who need everything spelled out for you in fifty foot high monosyllables this film will displease your infantile sensibilities. If you understand film as art and are willing to play along with what the creator in the game they're playing then you may well enjoy this way the story pulls you into and then leads you back from the land of dreams. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Very well done mood piece. I felt it was a fascinating glimpse into the imagination of a child caught on the fringes on adult tragedy around him. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member DNF, stopped after 70min, too slow and too boring Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
