LordGimpsBury x I'm going to tell you to imagine... Yah, thats it. I enjoy a movie that allows me some room to get to my own conclusions but doesn't expect me to look at a selection of related random objects and determine the correlation between them. When a movie is both basic and random its like a carnival ride that keeps breaking down. I want to share the dream, try to relate to the meaning and be provoked by the symbolism. I don't want to sit in a psychedelic circle of existentialism saying yeah man i get it. A movie that gives pinpoints of focus then gives no correlation is just random. The sets and locations were beautiful. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/24 Full Review Shauna B This was the most ridiculous movie I've ever seen. Do not waste two hours of your life watching it. The only thing worse was the sausage fingers scene in the movie Everything all at once with Jamie Lee Curtis. This made zero sense. The only way this was made is because of John Malcovich. Josh Hartnett looked good but can do better, I hope. Sigh. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/24 Full Review Margo r I don't get the critics reviews who say this film is incomprehensible (but beautiful to watch). It's Majewski. It's surrealism. Besides being gorgeous to look at, the narrative is a wonderful brain tease. The prologue tells us what will unfold in the following "chapters." The Navajo myth of Creation punctuates each segment. Three plot points are 1) the struggle of the indigenous people to save their land from mega deep pockets who are mining for uranium (which will poison them), 2) the struggle of a writer who can't write a great novel or keep his wife, and 3) the vulgarity of the mindsets of Uber wealthy men. How these disparate plot points are woven together is marvelous to watch. On my second viewing, their interconnectedness is made more plain. On my first viewing, I was just gobsmacked by the visuals. Wow. Sadly, the pandemic robbed the audience of a screen worthy of this film. And, apparently, left film critics oblivious to its release digitally. Two of the three main characters are played by two of the best and most fascinating indie actors, John Malkovich and Josh Hartnett. Not that they have a lot to say in the bare bones dialogue. But the major character is the Navajo Nation, played by Native American actors. Lech Majewski (who wrote, directed, and did the camera work and sound) is not everyone's cup of tea. But for those who want to be swallowed up by everything cinematic and to have the "willing suspension of disbelief," this film is a treasure. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Possibly the worst movie I've ever seen. Tries too hard to be high art and completely fails at telling a story. Was contemplating backing out of watching it within the first three minutes, but being a stubborn masochist I stuck with it to the end. I wish I hadn't. The only thing this movie made me experience is dwelling on my own mortality as 2 hours of my life slipped away watching it. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Absolutely hideoulsy boring and very confusing ! No storey, no plot , no connection . 2 hours of disappointment 😞 half a star is to much ! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member The only thing this has going for it is The Valley of the Gods scenery. Otherwise, it is an absolute waste of time. Stupid beyond stupid. Peter Sobczynski RogerEbert.com The film may be nuts but it certainly isn't boring. Rated: 3/4 Aug 11, 2020 Full Review Liam Lacey Original Cin Director Majewski's visually lush film, while imaginative, is awful. Aug 13, 2020 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness There is an obvious admiration of the Navajo and a clear disdain for the wealthy, except that's really all that Valley contains as the rest is so mired in trying to be lofty that it loses the forest for the trees.
