Audience Member Documentary chronicling how Maila Nurmi became somewhat of a horror icon with her portrayal of horror hostess Vampira. This documentary consists mostly of talking head interviews with Nurmi herself, Forest Ackerman, Kevin Eastman, Julie Strain, Sid Haig, Bill Moseley and Cassandra Peterson among others. The interviews were interesting but would like to have seen more footage than what was included. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A good and comprehensive documentary about an eccentric character, and a snapshot of the times where celebrity was controlled by power-brokers who screwed Maila Nurmi over several times - yet her popularity endures. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A documentary about the character Maila Nurmi played in Plan 9. She gives a good interview which is intercut with too many goofballs (Jerry Only and Cassandra Peterson [Elvira] were the only decent interviews) giving tidbits about herstory. At the time of the interview she was in her 80s and reclussive and rather humorus. With the Vampira charachter she created, for a year during the 50s, she hosted a horror movie show on an LA television station (of which limited footage still exists, but some is shown here). Most interesting were the early pin-up model-syle photos of Maila in her more natural blonde hair & curvy body. Terrible music and stupid reinactments really hurt this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Fascinating documentary, too bad there isn't more surviving footage of Vampira's show. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Suorastaan ahdistavan kamala dokumentti. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Not particularly well-made, but Nurmi makes for a fascinating subject. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews
