Ashameera Aiyappan Firstpost Veetla Vishesham is not a frame-by-frame replica of the Bollywood hit Badhaai Ho. Sure, the film retains a lot -- scenes, and even a few shots. But a lot has been changed too; even what the film has retained feels very different from Badhaai Ho. Rated: 3/5 Nov 21, 2023 Full Review Bhuvanesh Chandar The Hindu The film manages to tick all the right boxes and does justice to the source material. Nov 21, 2023 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Without being preachy, the comedy/drama Veetla Vishesham adeptly depicts issues of ageism and sexism that happen when a 50-year-old married mother unexpectedly gets pregnant. The realistic performances from the movie's talented cast enliven this story. Jul 8, 2022 Full Review Haricharan Pudipeddi Hindustan Times The Tamil remake of Badhaai Ho is a well-made entertaining film that manages to not just be good on its own but even stands up to the National Award-winning original. Jun 17, 2022 Full Review M Suganth The Times of India ...the duo manages to smoothen out these wrinkles with help from Girishh Gopalakrishnan's emotive score that elevates the emotions in the dramatic scenes... Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 17, 2022 Full Review Film Companion Staff Film Companion This isn’t a futile remake in any way, but it certainly comes from a drastically different cinematic sensibility, one that could lessen the seriousness of its messaging. Joel S Wonderful story, and great use of character arcs as this traditional family comes to terms with an unexpected pregnancy for the 50-something married couple. Well written, well cast, well directed. Only critique was that the insertion of a fully-choreographed musical number at a secondary setting of a cousin's wedding-- while obviously a nod to the long tradition of such musical selections at weddings throughout the history of Indian cinema-- felt out of place within this particular movie.
