Karthik Keramalu Firstpost Simbu is terrific as a reluctant gangster. Badrisrinivasan A lot attention to detail in every frame of the movie. Good support by STR throughout the movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/18/22 Full Review Priyan B Underrated as fuck. Rating: 8.1/10 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review Dinesh P Fascinating. I've been waiting a while for another awesome Gautam Menon movie, and VTK does not disappoint. This is an incredibly well articulated story, with beautiful cinematography, exceptional acting, and immediately believable narrative. ARR's music lends tremendous perspective to the plot, and the way Simbu carries himself through the movie leaving an indelible impression on the audience speaks volumes about the trust that this pair - Gautam and Silambarasan - have in each other. Siddi Idnani is beautiful as Paavai, and Radhika delivers yet another poignant performance as a concerned mother. Mumbai has always had a special place in Tamil history, particularly the gangster legend that goes with the territory, and VTK tells the story of a couple of feuding hitmen without going too deep into the gory details of what instigates the squabble in the first place. The fights sequences are incredibly realistic, the shooting scenes are believable, unlike Vikram, which felt like a meaningless Western misplaced in modern day society. But, I digress. This review is about Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, a movie that warrants a visit to the cinema. A movie that lives up to the lofty expectations of Silambarasan's fan following and Gautam Menon's talent behind the camera. Can't wait for Part 2. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/15/22 Full Review Dhanu K Gautham Vasudev Menon's Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu: Part 1 - The Kindling starts off very promising as it focuses on Muthu, an underdog from a village in Tamil Naadu, who enters the underworld of Mumbai. This is probably the best performance from Silambarasan (STR) since Thotti Jaya. The way his character, Muthu, is developed and how his innocence transitions to bravery is absolutely fantastic. Appukutty, who plays a major role after such a long gap, has also delivered a striking performance. Even though it's a beautiful film to look at, it doesn't mean that it is perfect. VTK has some issues. The pacing could've been so much better. The second half doesn't live up to the chilling and exciting interval block, which was probably the best scene of the entire movie. Even though the chemistry between Silambarasan and Siddhi Idnani is terrific, it does feel like the romantic portions involving these two, could have been avoided as they affect the pacing and take the audience out of the primary story. The villains are poorly developed and the two-gang-rivalry concept is obviously outdated. The film also builds up towards a sequel, but to be honest, the story is neither big or epic for the film to start a franchise. Strictly a one-time-watch!
