Audience Member Vengeance sees a violent and stubborn cop chase a gang of escaped convicts into a cursed jungle. Lots of monsters, magic and mysticism abound. It's interesting for awhile, with some shootouts and exposition setting the scene. There's a creepy but awesome Tiger Wasp attack, that has a man ripped apart in gorerious old school fashion. However, as the monsters get bigger the effects become worse. A group of baby alligator/tree lizard things are neither convincing as animatronics or CGI. Both are rather jolty but are luckily still fun to watch. A giant CGI snake/demon is next up, which is confusingly bad, as it is so hard to get any perspective on the creature, I was surprised every time the snake grabbed someone as it never looked close enough. By the time people start turning into tree demons it's all a bit chaotic. The designs of these human/tree hybrids are wonderful, with leaf like wings and bark like skin. Again the mixture of CGI and make-up is jarring. Overall this is a fun monster movie, but has too many flaws within it's overlong running time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member CGI won't save this one. It was just plain boring. Shame. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A Thai flick about misdirected rage, but with greater focus on swarms of creatures out for human blood... and the sacred "Time Travel Coin" at the center of all this mess. The beginning is a bit confusing with all the different characters, the middle is utterly ridiculous, and the final minute of the movie is excellent, but only slightly redeeming... The CGI is just so bad for the bulk of the movie that it's hard to take seriously. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Police story meets lost world meets the time machine. I don't know if Thai movie people assume their audience knows all the mythologies but there are certainly lots of unexplained weirdness occuring. Decent looking critters. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Vengeance (or Phairii phinaat paa mawrana) is an excellent film from Thailand about cops chasing criminals through a dark and magical forest that is filled with killer wasps, very sexual tree nymphs, killer ninja lizards, and a large snake dragon. The remaining survivors of that gauntlet of nature run-amok terror are taken in by a small village in the forest whose residents hold a much worser fate for them. Much more gruesome and vulgar than the box led me to believe. Also (and I cannot believe I'm about to say this), the sexual overtones in the film may have hurt it just a hair. They were a bit unnecessary and out of place. Also, don't expect a happy ending out of this one, folks. Overall, though, this film was a HUGE surprise to me. I loved it. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member After reading the back of the showbox, i thought this was going to be a angry ghost hunting humans movie...but then it turned out to be crazy jungle bugs/reptiles killing humans, to vampires killing humans. It jumped around too much, but still was better then some of the other movies being put out today Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
