Alex W Jun 25 Probably a B-level Shaw Brothers movie for most fans. But it tics a lot of boxes for the more familiar tropes of the genre. (It's up to the viewer if that's a good or bad thing.) See more 02/28/2016 The first hour of this movie can be a bit tough to watch. It has a lot of what's familiar to the genre and that I enjoy but there's a lot of cheese, with extremely melodramatic music and some odd editing and effects. But then about an hour in people come to their senses -- mainly I'm thinking of the lead Xiaoyan and how she becomes not only fearless but also a bit smart. She finally goes out to find vengeance for her family. The titular golden sword isn't as vital to the movie as you are initially led to believe, but is key to the ending. If it didn't have such a great payoff I'd have rated this much lower. See more 02/28/2016 This story about a rich man who loses his valuable golden blade to a romantic rival and a treacherous wife didn't really grade me, but it did feature some solid fight sequences and i do always like martial arts films that prominently feature female fighters and this film has a number of excellent female martial artists. According to IMDB, Sammo Hung is somewhere in this film, but I wasn't able to spot him.
