What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's as scattershot as its predecessor, but V/H/S/2 rounds up enough horror filmmaking talent to deliver a satisfyingly nasty -- albeit uneven -- dose of gore.

Justin Lowe The Hollywood Reporter Less is not necessarily more in this slimmed-down collection. Dec 31, 2013 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian There are some dull stretches here, but also some grisly instant hits: nasty, deplorable, vulgar and sometimes brilliant. Rated: 3/5 Oct 10, 2013 Full Review David Jenkins Little White Lies Someone please give Gareth Evans lots of money to make amazing, violent, creative horror films. Rated: 3/5 Oct 10, 2013 Full Review Brian Bisesi Horror Movie Club Podcast Unlike its predecessor, V/H/S/2 only has one speed. This fast, loud, and abrasive film would have benefited from one or two slower, more tense segments to vary the tone. However, the thrills of A Ride in the Park and Safe Haven make this worth a watch. Rated: 3/5 Sep 4, 2024 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Pulls off the seemingly impossible by being an anthology that succeeds with nearly every vignette. Between the merits of each individual segment and the variety of horrors chronicled, it's arguably the highpoint of the franchise. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Admirable but uneven, as is often the case with such anthologies. Rated: 2.5/4 Sep 2, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Erik B The second compilation in the V/H/S series continues the same storyline from the original. Pretty fun, but some of the stories feel quite familiar. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/03/24 Full Review Rami A This is even worse than its predecessor. None of these stories feel authentic and come off as rather strange. In fact, they resemble terrible "horror porn" films. The lack of coherence in the narratives makes it difficult to engage with the characters, and the superficial plot twists only add to the overall disappointment. Rather than creating a sense of suspense or fear, the sequences often feel forced and exaggerated. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/02/24 Full Review Audience Member V/H/S/2 is a huge improvement compared to the first one. With faster-pacing segments, more gore, actually interesting segments and points during the movie. All of the segments are solid in their own ways but confusing storylines, weird characters still written and how Larry and his girlfriend didn’t hear Kyle shoot himself makes this movie a little annoying sometimes. 8/10. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/04/24 Full Review Audience Member It’s the follow-up to the 2012 original cult hit The first movie got split reactions from critics but this looks to be the first actual good installment in a line of many sequels that followed The filmmakers take the same approach making several short stories of terror in VHS format The shorts involve a camera eye, a missing student, a zombie outbreak, a cult involving demonic birth, and a doggy cam involving aliens The shorts are scarier, the quality looks much better and more crisp, and there’s no shortage on delivering mountains of gore The segments work pretty well but the last one is very hard to watch maybe due to the fact there’s some animal cruelty involved It’s hard to fully get on board with something like that in a horror movie But the sequel is better than its predecessor with the pacing never letting up throwing all kinds of scares at you left and right being inventive Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Aktuğ A They didn't make the mistake of unnecessary extension made in the previous film again. Although some segments are very good, the horror element is shallow and cliché. It offers a more cinematic found footage experience. Better quality image have increased viewing pleasure. I hope they can find the opportunity to work with better writers. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/12/24 Full Review Alpha B Decided to check it out for "Safe Haven" because I love the 2 directors who collaborated on it. Definitely the highlight but the other sequences were also pretty good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
