      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

With V.I. Warshawsky, Kathleen Turner proves more than up to the task of leading a cop thriller -- it's the script that sadly isn't up to snuff.

Blu B The plot flat out is so convuluted it doesn't makes sense by the end. There is so many twists and turns in such a short runtime that would rather focus on making this a buddy cop (or baby sitting) movie than commit to being the serious crime drama/noir it tries to be half the time with a plot complexity pulled straight from Out of the Past full pun intended. Otuside of the title track the music is fogettable. Everything else about this isn't that good. Turner has prescence but is given a dumb kid cop and clunky dialouge that THINKS it's as sharp as the noirs of old it's trying to copy. The humor dilutes this also and never really works together with the crime drama. No one really has that much chemistry and it alternates between feeling like stuff just happens and it gets so complex I don't know what happened by the end. It's just a whole lot of nothing. Also the name Boom Boom is sooo stupid. No laughs, no thrills, no reason to see this. Skip This. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/14/24 Full Review Peter P Kathleen Turner gives an excellent performance as tough, wisecracking private investigator with heart. Mostly lighthearted crime-comedy with tons of quips, suspenseful story and Chicago well staged as location. It has not too much action but a nice speedboat race on the Chicago River. Overall very enjoyable movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a silly movie for sure. But I found it the right kind of silly. The plot was possible (unlike many pi movies) and it moved along pretty well. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Private investigator must find the killer of a hockey player whose daughter she was asked to look over. Together, Warshawski and the young girl partner up to investigate. Silly plot with unbelievable characters make this action comedy a forgettable mess. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I guess I'm one of the few who really liked this movie. There were some great lines in it and I liked the characters. Kathleen Turner did a great job as usual. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member SUMMARY: A PI get a babysitting job for one of her former boyfriend's.When he ends up dead she gets hired by the daughter to find out who is behind his murder. REVIEW: Even though the plot is weak and the acting could have used some improvement, Kathleen Turner did bring sexiness and good humor to this movie. I Guess it's a decent detective movie but not much here to get excited about. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly Turner, with her leonine sexiness, remains a radiantly adult actress. She deserves better than this kid-stuff thriller. Rated: C- Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Brian Case Time Out Not good. Jul 6, 2010 Full Review Janet Maslin New York Times "V. I. Warshawski" has a breezy style and a serviceable, even surprising detective plot. And it has Ms. Turner, who makes the most of V. I. Warshawski's sardonic humor. May 20, 2003 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) V.I Warshawski is an acceptable matinee entertainment, much more fluid than the usual telefilms within this genre. [Full review in Spanish] Jul 27, 2023 Full Review Steve Persall Tampa Bay Times Kanew, who injected some imagination into the campus comedy routine with Revenge of the Nerds, can't manage the same with the gumshoe genre. Rated: 1/4 Jun 24, 2021 Full Review Ed Travis Cinapse Turner's Warshawski is bitingly hilarious, brazenly sexy, and always the smartest one in the room. Nov 2, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
