Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Rated: 3/5 Aug 12, 2005 Full Review Jeremy Heilman MovieMartyr.com Because the subject matter of the film is unremittingly bleak, the majority of the pleasure for most viewers will likely be derived from decoding these beguiling visuals and the thrill of not knowing what Grandrieux will come up with next. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Probably the best use of drone in any movie I've ever seen. I prefer Grandieux's nightmare to Lynch's -- it speaks to me in a purely visceral way unmatched by anything else. There are some images here I'm afraid will find their way into my subconscious and mess with me for the rest of my life. With this and Sombre, it appears as if the world has a bleaker, post-modern version of Antonioni in Grandieux, which is a terrifying thought. Looking forward to Un Lac, I wonder what the man could possibly do with his next movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Intense. Philippe Grandrieux is a master of the visceral experience of cinema. In LA VIE NOUVELLE he uses pitch perfect cinematography and sound design to completely submerge the viewer. This film is not something you watch but rather experience. This film is just terrifying; Grandrieux uses a lot of experimental aesthetics to create the mood, and show the savageness of the situation. God, I need to watch this a few more times to fully grasp it; but some amazing stuff. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Damn that was intense! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member cuando el cine da para mas Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member This was pretty intense and visceral experience, helped by some really awesome avant garde aesthetics and some of the most fucked up, terrifyingly directed scenes ever. It does however too often risks being too cold and abstract, especially with the way the characters are treated as little more than bodies. I also don't think it's necessary to have that drone in the background all the time when silence is more preferable. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
