Audience Member And these were the new areas I was talking about in Rhythmus 23 (1923)! Extraordinary! We can smell, taste and touch the stop-motion origins of Svankmajer and the camera tricks of Cocteau. Images, compositions, a gravity-less world created out of the blue with pure visual and visionary mastery thanks to Hans Richter's groundbreaking, unprecedented and -ahead-of-their-time magic tricks, even assigning a great energy and a personality to the short film! And comedy! Vormittagsspuk is truly one of the longstanding and legendary pieces of celluloid evidence for claiming that cinema can be both a form of communication for complex ideas and for representing/criticizing the potential dangers of an imminent or present regime. Long live Dadaism! 99/100 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a neat little film, but it's only that way if the Dadaist movement is interesting to you. Otherwise it's 8 silent minutes of things not making any sense. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a glorious piece of Dadaist absurdity. Richter creates many amazing images by animating objects and having them violate the laws of physics such as the iconic floating hats. I do think, however, this starts to become repetitive after a few minutes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Delightful dadaism, fun with bowler hats and clocks and collars. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Wilde said, "Only dull people are brilliant at breakfast," but before breakfast, well, Richter shows that some people (or their dreams) can be quite stimulating. With nifty Sabattier effects, pixilation and flying hats, "Vormittagsspuk" is spot-on for those who are never quite themselves before morning coffee.
