This film uses the wedding of a Serbian man and a Croatian woman as the jumping-off point to explore the violent civil war that brought about the breakup of the former Yugoslavia. The wedding-day celebration, which is taking place in the ethnically mixed city of Vukovar, is interrupted by violent demonstrations that ultimately tear the newlyweds -- and the city itself -- apart. The Serbian groom flees to join the army, and his Croatian bride is roughed up by soldiers.
