Audience Member For a low budget, independent drama from a first time director, it's okay. It's a simple plot, with simple characters. Tom E. Nicholson is the lead. He's an engaging presence. Well cast. Nobody else in the cast stand out. This is really Nicholson's movie. The screenplay by Chris Retts is okay but some of the writing doesn't make sense such as the relationship between Nicholson's character and the girl. It feels contrived. For example, the girl somehow manages to locate and place the paper on Nicholson's car but requires him to pick her up from her house. How did she find his car in the first place? And then you have Nicholson's character opening up to the girl in his first interaction with her and telling her how his father sexually abused him - it just doesn't seem like something he would do. Some of the other dialogue in the film feel contrived too such. And the subplot involving Nicholson and the fast food worker doesn't add anything to the story. I think the first act - in which we explore Nicholson's character and come to understand how lonely, depressed and unhappy he is is a strong part. How he sees this act of vigilante justice as his purpose. His misconstrued way of doing something good in society. I think that's all very interesting. I just didn't like how the story progressed following Nicholson's character's act of murder. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/25 Full Review Stacey T Two words: under-rated masterpiece. The best off- the-radar film I've ever seen. If I was an entertainment investor, I'd bet on this writer/director. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/25 Full Review Tom N You really have to see it to understand the depth. It's weird the critical review served like he enjoyed it but his rating didn't match up with his words Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/23/24 Full Review tom m Just okay. The 2nd half was more interesting than the first. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Wade in the Water is unique for an indie movie because it's a bit of a character study. I've been binging on a ton of indies, and they have a hard time with this kind of movie or at least doing it this well. The crux of the story is that the protagonist finds purpose after accidentally finding a secret none of us ever want to ever see. Tom E. Nicholson, who plays the lead, is in every scene and is mesmerizing to watch. He's an angry character that starts to grow on you. You get and understand his daily frustration. There is a little of him (or a lot) in all of us. Excellent watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Outstanding and unusual indie film. Enjoyed thoroughly. Unusual and different with great acting, writing and direction. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews
