jas s This actually wasn't Burton's last role (his last film role was 1984). It's a better film than it's given credit for. Burton's portrayal of Wagner is solid (especially the scenes of the composer in his later years) and the film has a first rate cast of distinguished actors such as Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Ralph Richardson, and Vanessa Redgrave along with a then little known Gabriel Byrne. The entire film is over 8 hours as well as an edited version that's under 4 hours though I wouldn't recommend that version. If nothing else it's a good way to kill a Sunday. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This film's only saving grace is Sir Georg Solti's stunning interpretations of Wagner's music. Otherwise these nine hours of cinematic biography make an undeniably complicated man seem even more so. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
