During the Cretaceous Period, a dinosaur named Patchi (Justin Long) hatches among a herd of Pachyrhinosaurus. Patchi's runt status means he must use his wits rather than strength to compete for food with his larger brothers and sisters, particularly Scowler. After a terrible fire leaves Patchi, Scowler, and a female named Juniper on their own, the rivalry between the brothers escalates to a dangerous level. Patchi must summon his inner courage and strength to become the leader he was born to be.

When the wisecracking dialogue occasionally shuts up and the jerky pace slows down, you notice the astonishing CGI detailing. Otherwise, this boasts all the flair, heart and originality of an inbred sea cucumber.

For all of its visual feats, you can never quite get around that disconnected dialogue, especially the persistent chatter from a prehistoric bird-narrator voiced by John Leguizamo that approaches Jar-Jar levels of irritation.

I remember watching this in the theater as a kid and thinking the movie was amazing. Now that I have given the movie a second watch, my opinion on it has changed. I personally think that CGI is still great and the story of a Pachyrhinosaurus life is interesting but my only 2 complaint would be are that the constant dialogue of the main character is too much and even the secondary characters have so really flat line deliveris. There are some lines in the movie that I liked, especially twords the second half of the film. At points them movie did feel rushed but at its time it felt very evenly paced. Finally the paleo accuracy is at some points out dated but as I mentioned before it was great at its time. Overall I did very much enjoyed this film as a kid and even now as an adult. This movie is a great way to teach children about dinosaurs.

Synopsis
