WALTZING WITH BRANDO follows Brando (Billy Zane) -- then the most famous actor in the world -- as he filmed Mutiny on the Bounty and bought a tiny and uninhabitable island in Tahiti. His intent was to escape his hectic Hollywood lifestyle and show the world the path to sustainability. To achieve this goal, he plucks Judge (Jon Heder), an obscure but idealistic Los Angeles architect, from his stable existence and convinces him that together they could build the world's first truly sustainable ecological retreat.

Bob Mondello NPR Billy Zane's uncanny resemblance to a 40-something Marlon Brando is put to intermittently amusing use in this breezy, if scattered, comedy. Sep 24, 2025 Full Review Aaron Neuwirth We Live Entertainment Zane is completely locked in as Brando, and I think what he captures is how much Brando didn’t seem to revere his own position as an actor. Rated: 7/10 Oct 16, 2025 Full Review Rosa Parra The Latino Slant This is a film you can easily waltz past. Rated: 4/10 Oct 7, 2025 Full Review Marlon Wallace The M Report (WBOC.com) The re-creations here are virtually indistinguishable from the real footage. Fishman's production could honestly be confused for documentary footage... whatever the makeup and hair department did only made things that much more flawless. Oct 6, 2025 Full Review Tara McNamara Common Sense Media This offbeat film—which is well-intentioned but tonally confusing—is still worth watching for Zane's performance as Brando. Rated: 2/5 Sep 29, 2025 Full Review Caroline Madden Vague Visages [W]hile, yes, Waltzing with Brando explores a singular facet of a celebrated Hollywood icon’s life, at the end of the day, watching the hedonism of an obscenely wealthy white man without much emotional depth or humor is pretty damn boring.
