WALTZING WITH BRANDO follows Brando (Billy Zane) -- then the most famous actor in the world -- as he filmed Mutiny on the Bounty and bought a tiny and uninhabitable island in Tahiti. His intent was to escape his hectic Hollywood lifestyle and show the world the path to sustainability. To achieve this goal, he plucks Judge (Jon Heder), an obscure but idealistic Los Angeles architect, from his stable existence and convinces him that together they could build the world's first truly sustainable ecological retreat.

Waltzing with Brando really surprised me with how grounded and honest it felt. It’s not your usual Hollywood take on an icon, instead, it strips away the myth and shows Brando as a flawed, fascinating person wrestling with purpose, ego, and the world around him. The story feels deeply human, almost intimate, like you’re being let in on something personal rather than performed for. Every conversation carries weight, and the emotional beats hit because they come from truth, not spectacle. Billy Zane delivers a performance that’s alive in every sense; sharp, unpredictable, and full of quiet emotion. He doesn’t imitate Brando; he channels him, finding those moments of tenderness and turmoil that make you forget you’re watching an actor. There’s a real sense of restraint and vulnerability in his portrayal, and it gives the film its pulse. By the end, it feels less like a biopic and more like a meditation on art, isolation, and what it means to truly live.

Billy Zane is endlessly impressive as the charismatic film legend Marlon Brando. The film has unique scene transitions, beautiful set pieces and more heart than most films I've seen this year; I just wish the ending was a tad more climactic.
