This Chinese animated epic fantasy is based on the true story of King Gesar. born to a divine lineage and destined to become a great hero and ruler. As a young man, the future king grew up exiled in a realm overrun by menacing demons and monsters. When evil forces threaten his home, he embarks on a heroic journey to save his people and fulfill his destiny as a legendary leader. The story of Gesar is considered one of Central Asia's literary classics and was passed down in oral tradition for some 1,000 years, as well as literary, poetic and stage play versions. Its Tibetan iteration may now be the most prominent; it is certainly one of the longest, running to over 100 volumes and a million verses, according to some calculations.

Christie Cronan Common Sense Media Fans of anime and the Chinese animation genre will appreciate the movie's stunning character visuals and creative CGI enhancements. Feb 6, 2024 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Warrior King only excels on a visual level, since the movie's animation often looks appealing. However, the movie's story is a jumbled mess and is made worse by all the stupid dialogue, bland characters, and formulaic action scenes. Aug 30, 2023 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall Textures, colours and details have a robust quality that holds the interest, especially when mythical creatures emerge, which helps make up for the choppy and too-brisk plotting plus rather bland voices in the English dub. Rated: 3/5 Aug 28, 2023 Full Review Kristian M. Lin Fort Worth Weekly For academics like me who follow trends in world cinema, Warrior King does hold some interest. For most of you, though, you’re better off catching the Super Mario Bros. movie as it re-opens this weekend for your animated entertainment. Aug 24, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Sandra R The animated costumes and music were some of my favorite parts. The animation also had a sort of anime feel to it. The mystical story is entertaining, as are the characters depicted. It was quite fast paced though making the connection to some of the characters harder. Also, it seemed like there were a few loose ends that needed tying up so maybe it could have used to be slightly longer or maybe they have left it open for a sequel.
