Critics Consensus

Wasp Network's talented cast makes this spy drama hard to ignore, even if the mystery at the heart of its storyline is too tangled for its own good.

Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) Director Olivier Assayas offers a political thriller that's rich in detail, but primarily invested in human cost. Rated: 3/5 Dec 9, 2020 Full Review Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) Wasp Network is a haphazard film that can feel like less than the sum of its often glittering parts. But it unsheathes its sting just often enough to keep you on your toes. Rated: 3/5 Nov 22, 2020 Full Review Mary Sollosi Entertainment Weekly Visually, the appeal of Wasp Network is undeniable - all warm, colorful, open spaces, elegantly shot and peopled with beautiful actors. The intrigue could have used some of that heat, too. Rated: C+ Jun 25, 2020 Full Review Dave Giannini InSession Film Regardless of the lack of stakes, it is still hard to imagine that given the talent involved, Wasp Network is not better just by pure force of personality. Rated: D+ Feb 20, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Wasp Network had the makings of a smash hit with its fascinating story and all-star cast, but unfortunately the story becomes incoherent and convoluted under the weight of its own ambition. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 1, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies I can’t deny the film’s faults, especially for those with no familiarity with the true events whatsoever. So take my advice – do some quick reading on the backstory before watching. It will lessen the confusion and open up a lot of what Assayas is doing. Dario S Learned something new. People saying it's communist propaganda are just coping Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/11/23 Full Review Berta P A great movie! The cast did an excellent job. First time someone had courage to reveal the real incidents that took place involving the Cuban government, the spies, and the US government. Many facts that were untold were revealed in this movie. The real story of what really happened is shown in this movie. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/20/23 Full Review Karen S So far from the truth…and offensive to many many Cubans. Terrible performances Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/06/23 Full Review Jim I Don't be put off by the one star slaughter brought to you by the Miami Cubano Mafia. Their families lost a L O T back when Castro took over, so I don't blame them for the hate. BUT Loved it. A real slow burn espionage film. The first half is setting the table, and the second half, esp after the narration really pops. The grotesque terrorism conducted by the United States (I'm willing to bet that there's $$$ funneled into these Miami mobs from USAID), funded by drug smuggling tells you all you need to know about the character of the ex-pat movement in Miami. In addition, attacking vacationers? Bombing them in hotel lobbies and shooting them up on the beach?...JHC. Some crew of wimps. The performances are extraordinary. My biggest regret is that Cruz & Armas didn't have a chance to share the screen; that would have been fantastic. It's a judicious commentary showing the resilience of Cuba and the sacrifices made by patriots while under assault from terrorism. If you found this review, I suggest you watch 'Cuba Libre' as well Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/15/23 Full Review Felix R Complete distortion of reality and historical facts. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/22 Full Review Audience Member A bit long , but a nicely made movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Read all reviews
