Otis Ferguson The New Republic 01/23/2024
In We Live Again, [Anna Sten] is actually brought back to life as a person -- partly by casting, no doubt: she still seems incompetent in the higher ranges of acting, but she is a good healthy peasant type, and capable of the reactions you might expect. Go to Full Review

We Live Again is a powerful, tragic, broodingly Russian picture. Go to Full Review

The new film is a handsome and impressive tribute to its director, Rouben Mamoulian, who, apart from his predilection for nature scenes, showing young couples chasing each other through apple blossoms, really does some beautiful things in this picture. Go to Full Review

Julian Rex M @Julian_M Oct 11 Despite lacking the storytelling chops to communicate the narrative and thematic depth of Tolstoy's gorgeous source material, We Live Again is still a passionately delivered tale on redemption and the ethics of desire that is well-served by Gregg Toland's dependable cinematographic hand. See more 01/30/2012 Dull, pedestrian drama starring Goldwyn's folly Anna Sten. While she isn't bad she didn't possess the star impact that is essential to carry a film. Of course it doesn't help that the screenwriters try and compress a Tolstoy story into less than an hour and a half and fail. High production values but if never seems anything else but a setbound play and not a compelling one.
