Critics Consensus

While neither as deep nor as skillfully constructed as its subject might deserve, Web Junkie remains a chillingly serious look at a nightmarish problem.

David Hinckley New York Daily News The campers, of course, hate it, and many seem to suggest it becomes basically another game to them. Figure it out, get released, go back to the computer. Rated: 4/5 Jul 12, 2015 Full Review Farran Smith Nehme New York Post The film is fascinating and often darkly funny, but it's hard not to wish for some actual analysis to flesh out the many scenes of grim people in gray rehab. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 7, 2014 Full Review Andrew O'Hehir Salon.com The human stories in "Web Junkie" are instantly identifiable, stories of a world where everyone has been brought closer together and simultaneously kept apart. Aug 6, 2014 Full Review Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat Spirituality & Practice A timely and thought-provoking documentary about efforts in China to deprogram teenagers addicted to Internet gaming. Audience Member I don't think this is the right approach, putting kids in a military camp for 3 months to combat their compulsions. These kids have a relationship problem with their parents and don't feel connected their family or society. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Is it bad that I watched this while playing World of Warcraft? I felt terrible for these kids and their parents. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting documentary which unfortunately is a bit rough and rushed, with an unsatisfying ending. While it allows the subjects to speak for themselves, and which it can be interesting and at times emotional, there is not much of an insight really into why this phenomenon is happening. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member In a government where they spend it's money building these rehabilitation centers, that also operated as boot camps for adolescents. What for? For online gaming addiction...I'm very serious(I think)..... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews
