James M Worth a watch despite some poor to average reviews. The film recovers well from a slow start; the plot progresses steadily towards a clever end - twist, supported by a decent soundtrack which should evoke a nostalgic journey back to late 80s / early 90s Trance Anthems with viewers of a certain age. Some strong performances from a cast comprising of the most talented young British actors and actresses of that point in time; most notably Ben Batt, brilliantly playing the villian role as John Anderson. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/27/22 Full Review Audience Member Ok, it's not winning any prizes but it does get better with age as the nostalgia grows stronger. With today's kids taking Bicep's lead and remaking the music of their parents from shoegaze, to electro to rave: this is the perfect time to revisit Weekender. Cartoon characterizations of wide eyed club kids, bouncers, drug dealers all getting a little out of their depth in Sergio Tacchini, adidas firebirds and an Italia 90 T-Shirt and Gascoigne 19 jersey that would go for tons before tomorrow's Italy v England final. No one really gets hurt and the main couple end up on a beach with a lovely kid. Absolute tunes on a great soundtrack from the greatest age in music. 1971? Nah, 1991 mate. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The tone got too dark for my liking. Keep it light, keep it fun. But I couldn't help trying to come up with ways of putting an end to that dickhead gang leader and those are not the kind of thoughts I want swirling around my head during a movie about the rave scene. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Great Movie!!! love the soundtrack only downside is there could of been alittle more detail to the story but other than that I really enjoyed it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Manchester answer to human traffic but better. Great music through out.If you a true Manc like me the you should love this. Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) You don't feel a time and a place have been captured with much detail. Rated: 2/5 Sep 2, 2011 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Weekender isn't a very original film but at least the music score sounds authentic and director Karl Golden keeps the pace going. Rated: 2/5 Sep 2, 2011 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian It's rammed with cliches and silliness and conforms to a lot of stereotypes, the most suspect being the obligatory scene in Ibiza whose only purpose is to show loads of young women with no tops on. Rated: 2/5 Sep 1, 2011 Full Review Brian Pendreigh Radio Times The perennial problem with party films is that the viewer is made to feel a wallflower, looking on from the sidelines, and director Karl Golden does nothing to dispel that sense of distance here. Rated: 2/5 Sep 8, 2011 Full Review Henry Fitzherbert Daily Express (UK) A poor man's Human Traffic. Rated: 2/5 Sep 1, 2011 Full Review Becky Bartlett The Skinny It's hard to not get caught up by the smoky, strobe-filled excess of easy money and ecstasy-enhanced raves.
