A.A. Dowd Digital Trends Walk Hard got to a lot of this stuff 15 years ago, and with much more precision. May 2, 2023 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It’s a collection of sketches where the whole is less than the pieces. Mar 2, 2023 Full Review Scott Tobias The Reveal (Substack) A goofy made-up plot about Al’s relationship with Madonna (Evan Rachel Wood) sends the film off on an unfunny tangent from which it never returns. Rated: A- Jul 13, 2025 Full Review Joseph Tomastik Loud and Clear Reviews The same way Weird Al takes the familiar framework and composition of a song but replaces its meaning with something purposefully silly and outlandish, Weird does the exact same thing to the typical biopic formula. Rated: 4.5/5 Nov 2, 2024 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Half the fun of Weird is enjoying the way Yankovic and director Steve Appel skewer the traditional musical bio-pic. Mark J Really good to start off with but drags on a bit too much to maintain the fun. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review Laura D This was the worst biography I ever scene in my life. The Jackson family movie and Michael finding Neverland was better biographies . Daniel Radcliffe was a good person to play weird Al . The relationship between weird Al and Madonna was gross and stupid. The fake stuff that was added to the movie that didn't happen and saying Michael Jackson parodied beat after eat it made me upset. Michael Jackson would be heartbroken if he saw this movie . He let weird al parody his songs and used the same location as Michael Jackson's music videos. I wish this movie didn't have violence, sex, drinking alcohol and substance using. It would of been better if the movie was actually accurate to his story not made up stuff . I give this movie a zero and I don't think it should of gotten an award . Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/11/25 Full Review g j Like Freddy Got Fingered, but dumber, tamer and less subtle. The comedy here doesn't get much further than "Ha ha, look at my moustache!" Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/04/25 Full Review J. C Absolute. Perfection. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/26/25 Full Review Jamie D It's a series of self indulgent celebrity cameos resting on a single joke. That joke is funny... For the first 5 minutes. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/22/25 Full Review Carlos I "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" is, in the best possible way, so stupid, but I love that they took this in the direction that they did. There's no better way to cover the life and legend of "Weird Al" Yankovic than with a completely unhinged, largely fictionalized, and utterly hilarious biopic. The sheer volume and quality of the cameo section alone absolutely killed me, it's a masterclass in comedic casting and a loving tribute to his influence.
