Definitely not a war movie as I thought it would be before watching it, and it surprised me, in a good way. It's interesting how the movie shows how, despite fighting for different ideologies, both sides are still the same people, they're still koreans. It also showed how the war devastated most of korea, which at the time was a very rural country, and that Korea was really just one more battlefield for the US and the USSR. "Welcome to Dongmakgol" is indeed a very beautiful and thoughtful movie.
