Robert Hanks Independent (UK) Rated: 2/5 Mar 29, 2011 Full Review Angie Errigo Empire Magazine Engaging and beautiful cinema. Rated: 3/5 Jan 29, 2007 Full Review William Schwartz HanCinema Therein lies the fundamental absurdity that defines the film. The characters in Welcome to Dongmakgol all want to do evil, yet often have to be talked into it. Mar 24, 2021 Full Review Beth Accomando KPBS.org The film reveals the penchant of South Korea filmmakers to mix every genre imaginable into one film. This one blends goofy comedy, war drama, tragedy, action and social commentary for a highly entertaining ride. Jan 29, 2008 Full Review Anton Bitel Film4 Korea's answer to Shangri-la is well worth a visit. Rated: 4/5 Jun 13, 2007 Full Review Stuart McGurk thelondonpaper This does risk becoming a badly-dubbed episode of 'Allo 'Allo! - but after you get past the sitcom premise, you'll find an engaging and witty little war parody. Liam D It's a typical war movie but like most of Korean cinema it's flips it on his head with dark humour Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/02/22 Full Review Audience Member I remembered it was a good movie when I first watched it. Rewatched it 10 years later and can't believe how slow the movie is and what's interesting about it. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Definitely not a war movie as I thought it would be before watching it, and it surprised me, in a good way. It's interesting how the movie shows how, despite fighting for different ideologies, both sides are still the same people, they're still koreans. It also showed how the war devastated most of korea, which at the time was a very rural country, and that Korea was really just one more battlefield for the US and the USSR. "Welcome to Dongmakgol" is indeed a very beautiful and thoughtful movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny and heartbreaking at the same time. A bold and unique movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member very much enjoyed the film, hated the ending.... Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Read all reviews
