Wayne K 2d Despite the wealth of talent both in front of and behind the camera, Welcome The Stranger is a film I struggle to say a single positive thing about. It’s the kind of film that keeps its cards close it its chest, frustratingly so, like the writer/director is stringing the audience along with the promise of a big, satisfying payoff that never comes. I only watched it last night and I’ve already forgotten how it ended. We need to warm to Alice’s character in order for her struggle to affect us, but she’s written as so annoying, needy and disruptive that she came across more like that relative you dread inviting over every Christmas but only do so out of obligation and hope and pray that they’ll do and say as little as possible. The whole project is like a bad student film, unrefined and unfocused, meandering endlessly with no sense of purpose but so in love with itself that every moment is painfully protracted. Trust me, skipping this one is a decision you’ll never regret. I like Riley Keough's work, generally; but she can't save this stinker. Beam me up, there's no good movie here. See more Jerod S @jeroduptown 12/27/2020 The brother and sister reunite under odd circumstances of lost parents and some really strange thing happening out back... Their sibling relationship is odd and gets more tense when his 'girlfriend' shows up and their paranoia grows. It's one of those movies that you end up scratching your head at the end...but there's no way to satisfy the itch it causes. Watched on sky because rating was 5*.. soooooooo not true! Ugly and skinny people walking round with sullen faces to dodgy plinky plonky music and nothing actually happens. Weird not in a good way.. don't watch! I hope to complain and get my £5.50 back! See more 04/27/2018 If I could give less than half a star I would!
