Jesse B Sparse, stark and provocative. The lack of dramatic plot points or overwrought dialog make it easy to place yourself in the protagonist's shoes. To me, it's a story about death. Coming to terms with it, or coming to it on your own terms. It's a universal story, and it doesn't need any explanation to be relatable. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member An intimate and existential character study of a man out of place with his past, himself, and his surroundings...it never quite coalesces as deeply as it hopes to, but this spiritual tale of redemption resonates. Los Angeles Times Mixes real-life situations and characters with fictionalized narrative threads to create a highly authentic slice-of-life drama. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 6, 2013 Full Review Jonathan Kiefer Village Voice At times the improvised dialogue seems too schematic and superfluous, especially in view of such exploratory and observant handheld camera work. Otherwise, though, this is wonderful stuff. Mar 1, 2013 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Hollywood Reporter A tender cinema verite take on one man's quest for spiritual redemption. Mar 1, 2013 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com At turns meandering, imprecise, and even stilted, Miller manages to also have created a film and a character that's memorable, meditative, and moving. Aug 7, 2019 Full Review C.J. Prince Way Too Indie The result is a film that is emotionally intimate and free of manipulation.
