Kamal Al-Solaylee Globe and Mail There's nothing revolutionary or artistically groundbreaking here, but there's something reassuring in the fact that this is what the French have anointed as their biggest hit. Vive la (low-key) diffrence. Rated: 3/4 Jan 23, 2009 Full Review Greg Quill Toronto Star [Dany] Boon tinkers with the formula just enough to make his story fresh and the sentiment at its heart not too sweet, though compounded contrivances in the last 30 minutes of the picture threaten to unravel its peculiar magic. Rated: 3/4 Jan 23, 2009 Full Review Kaleem Aftab The List Boon thinks it funny to leave the boom in shot all the time. It isn't. Indeed, little in this drivel is funny. Roy T I love this movie and I've now watched it many times. Not only do I still laugh at the humourous scenes, this movie has a tremendous ability to make you feel good. Of course it is in French with subtitles, and some of the humour comes from the differences between proper French language and the dialect spoken in the village where the movie takes place. The danger with the subtitles is that the humour of these differences might become lost in translation, but I'm happy to say that this is not the case, and English speakers can well understand the scenes where the humour is the language, and laugh along. The characters and acting are superb and by the end of the movie you'll wish you lived in that small town where the locals speak funny. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review Alain M "Welcome to the Sticks" is a French comedy film that was released in 2008. The movie follows the story of Philippe Abrams, a postal worker from Paris who is forced to transfer to a small town in the North of France, known as "Les Sticks". At first, Philippe struggles to adapt to the new way of life and the quirky local residents, but as he spends more time there, he begins to appreciate the simplicity and charm of the town. The film is filled with hilarious moments and witty one-liners, making it a fun and lighthearted watch. The cast is excellent, with lead actor Kad Merad delivering a standout performance as Philippe. The film's portrayal of the rural North of France is also a highlight, offering a unique and charming look at a region that is often overlooked. Overall, "Welcome to the Sticks" is a delightful film that offers a refreshing change of pace from the typical Hollywood offerings. If you're looking for a funny and feel-good movie, this is definitely worth a watch! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Feeling warm rural minds. Happiness.
