Alexandra Heller-Nicholas AWFJ.org This is a film - and filmmaker - unafraid to trust her instinct, and with industry support and the further mentorship it demonstrates Trower has the potential to be a dynamic, energetic and fearless Australian filmmaker. corkball 'What if it Works' ticks all the quirky indie boxes. It has people with mental issues, artists, trannies, etc if you are in to that sort of thing. I would even go so far as to say the direction and cinematography are a cut above the typical indie, and while the leads aren't magnetic at all, they are likeable enough. The movie kind of meanders through their issues (with relevant dramatic events always getting overheard at just the right time) , and doesn't really have a solid conclusion, but it is a harmless enough movie to entertain for a bit. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Intelligent and fun. Doesn't get much wrong. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review kevin w From Melbourne, Australia, comes a new take on a staple of the rom-com genre, the old "what if they're both crazy?" scenario (Bringing Up Baby is just one example). The leads do well enough under the constraints of their maladies, but the work itself fails to ever leave "rehashed" territory, never ignites that "well this is different" spark absolutely necessary to the format's success. Even the transvestites, only included to enliven the proceedings with life not present otherwise, feel contrived. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
