Given that the Skarsgårds, father and son in real life, are performing a script co-written by Huang and Stellan’s wife, Megan Everett-Skarsgård, the twisted meditation on family dysfunction comes over strong, and the cast are uniformly excellent. Go to Full Review

It seems like everyone involved with “What Remains” wanted to see how far they could go in making a murder mystery so miserablist. Go to Full Review

The dismal depths to which What Remains is willing to go makes it that much more intricate a work, impressive for any feature, much more so for a debut. Go to Full Review

Despite fine performances and a tantalising initial interest, this unremitting misery-fest feels unsatisfying. Go to Full Review

“‘What Remains’ is a low-key stylish film about human potential and the elevation of consciousness, though Huang keeps the audience trapped in a dark and uncomfortable place with his cryptic storytelling.” Go to Full Review

Dialog is spoken in a whisper, as people wrestle with facts that stubbornly refuse to reveal the truth. So the film is gripping but also rather sleepy. Go to Full Review

Richard M. @rhmichaels Nov 21 Slow boring not worth u time See more MZ X Nov 2 Worthless garbage. Slow, bleak, drab and excruciatingly BORING. The characters barely speak in more than hushed, distorted tones with zero substance and they seem to have been paid not to emote at any cost. This was a miserable experience and a cinematic failure. I didn’t know a serial killer’s story could be so painfully dull and utterly forgettable. See more CT 8 Jan 19 I’ve always been a fan of Skellan Skarsgard and I literally sat through the entire movie because of him, but it was just terrible. The movie was bleak, boring and slow on steroids. So slow in fact I dozed off briefly while watching it. Or perhaps I slipped into a coma…at this point I’m not really sure. See more Sandra S Jan 13 This slow burning psycho drama will capture you if you give it time. The acting is fantastic and the tragedy of a "monster" at any costs surprised me for the delicate portrait of a wrencing human experience. See more Jan 11 Sumptuously acted, gorgeous cinematography, heavy tension, this film should have gotten more attention. See more David S Jan 2 The best sleep-aid of 2024! See more Read all reviews
