Audience Member The Duke looking out of place as a hayseed lawyer stomping around the Big Apple looking for a murderer while trying to deal with big-city corruption. While it does provide some drama, the plot workthrough is slow and convaluted and unecessarily centres around John Wayne's love affair with Frances Dee heading towards an obvious conclusion. As such he looks lost in this film and might as well have not been there given he adds very little presence to it.
