Reporter Jimmie Lee (Robert Montgomery) suspects his long-time girlfriend, successful novelist Mary Howard (Myrna Loy), of having a romance with her married publisher, Rogers Woodruf (Frank Morgan). While Mary works on her latest novel -- about a married woman allowing her husband to desert her for his mistress -- Jimmie meets Woodruf's wife, Clare (Ann Harding). Realizing she is unaware of her husband's affair, he convinces Clare to meet Mary while pretending to be his new girlfriend.

Audience Member I'd seen the Joan Crawford remake of this film and didn't really care for it. Crawford in a comedy role is pretty hard for me to take. Ann Harding, Robert Montgomery and Myrna Loy seem much more suited to the story about a female author who falls in love with her publisher despite him having a lovely and charming wife. It's a likable enough of romantic comedy, but this version seemed overly talky and often time forgot to be witty in it's verbose script. Still, it's a likable enough of film and worth watching for the cast, if for nothing else.
