      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Where Hands Touch is noteworthy for its exploration of a little-discussed corner of World War II, even if its story leaves something to be desired in the telling.

Michellea S This film actually left an impression on me, the characters really make, well acted. The important thing is this movie made me feel uncomfortable, especially with some of the things Leyna the young mix race girl, in her desire to fit in with the ideology of the time, both the young couple Lutz & Leyna are both intelligent they are both going through that learning phase of life at a very troubling confusing time for them. The love story is beautiful & movie, sets beautiful, very much exports you there into the heartland of Berlin.. There are some scenes as with holocaust movies hard to watch, but not overly in your face. The mother of Leyna is stunningly beautiful & a wonderful mum, the father of Lutz does a great job... The ending leaves you thinking & questioning ... so this movie does have an impact. A look into the other groups & people who suffered under "the pure race" policy! Not based on a true story, but one told in order to bring the flight of people of different colour. Thankfully many actually survived, but many were sterilised... May we never forget the six million Jews, the people of mixed race (due to skin colour), tge disabled, gypsies, SDA, Christians ect... who died & suffered under the hands of the Natzi's during WW2 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/25/23 Full Review Laura U Very sad and very real. We need more of these WWII stories to come out. The acting was fantastic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/02/23 Full Review Maria It's worth a watch and the acting was superb. I enjoyed this and was different from most holocaust movies as it brought to light a facet from the holocaust that is rarely discussed. It was heart wrenching at the end. Some notable mentions the actors that played parents like leynas mother and Lutz father were so dedicated to their roles that it helped elevate the performances of the younger actors. It kind of made me wish for a part 2. As to what happened with leyna. I did not expect the ending. I do recommend to watch this movie it's deff worth it. It's not slow paced it's at a consistent pace. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/30/23 Full Review Susanna G I don't understand the negative critic reviews. It wasn't melodramatic at all. It was very well done and heartbreaking. I can think of one point that was unrealistic but the performances made it all feel very real. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/01/22 Full Review Audience Member I definitely recommend this film. George Mackay is a fantastic actor, as well as the rest of the brilliant cast. The story was heartbreaking and one we must never forget. Please watch this film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Hands down, one of the best movies I have ever seen. It really makes you think in depth about humankind and the wickedness they are capable of. This movie is a true story and that is one of the reasons why it inspired me to watch it to begin with. Make sure you have plenty of Kleenex on hand because you will need it. I just love this movie, must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review I found myself looking at it and liking certain parts, but I didn't get emotionally swept up...but it great that the film happened, in itself there's a sense of relief and triumph there... May 22, 2019 Full Review Larushka Ivan-Zadeh Metro Newspaper (UK) It's a fascinating take on the horrors of World War II and one that confirms [Amandla] Stenberg as one of the most accomplished rising stars of her generation. Rated: 3/5 May 10, 2019 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) If Asante's idea is that Nazi ideology poisoned bright young minds into viewing their fellow citizens as less than human, the lovey-dovey bond she's pushing as the main event seems even more implausible. Rated: 2/5 May 10, 2019 Full Review Matthew St. Clair Cinema Sentries Where Hands Touch still manages to be a well-acted historical drama that depicts World War II from a different point of view. It also retains the same theme of finding your identity that Amma Asante has demonstrated in her previous work. Oct 5, 2020 Full Review Fiona Underhill JumpCut Online It is Leyna's relationship with her mother (and her own identity) that is perhaps the most moving aspect of the film. Amandla Stenberg gives a fantastic performance here as a young woman who is struggling to find her place in the world. Jul 2, 2020 Full Review Andrew F. Peirce The Curb Possibly with a different screenwriter, or even a different cast, Where Hands Touch might have been something truly great. Unfortunately, as it is, it's very middle ground fare that neither moves, engages, or informs - it simply exists. Apr 4, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
