What means to be a whodunit that leaves the reveal to the very, very end, Where the Crawdads Sing, directed by Olivia Newman, instead sucks all of the mystery out of a murder trial that offers no alternatives to the theory at hand.

It’s far more concerned with binary portrayals of good and bad, presenting them as overly whimsical or toxic respectively. It’s a promising concept that translates into a frustrating experience of tonal incoherence.

My teenager and I loved this movie. The cinematography is beautifully done, the actors are very good, and the writing is wonderful. I didn’t read the book beforehand, so I don’t know how it compares to the book.

For the genre/type of movie, it is, Where the Crawdads Sing is pretty decent. Daisy Edgar-Jones was the perfect casting choice for Kya. The flaws are blatant but forgivable because they capture the marsh so well. It’s a highly faithful adaptation, but most events/dialogue don’t have the same effect on the screen as on the page. It’s adequate, but it works much better as a book.

Really enjoyed this movie! However, I did read the book and I felt like there were some moments that I thought, "wait a minute, that's not right!" Nevertheless, I enjoyed it! :-)

Absolutely loved. My fav movie of the year, so far. Critics are looking for the artsy-est, weirdest movies to garner a good score, but the audience mostly just wants a good, solid, story. This is the kind of movie that will actually keep theatres open. Nobody wants to sit through Tree of Life lol but I am so tired of super hero movies as well. This was a refreshing departure from either extreme.
