Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle Where the Devil Roams may be the family's most complete movie, and its febrile and claustrophobic horrors will sneak into your nightmares. Rated: 3/5 Nov 29, 2023 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com Their collective filmmaking eye is still so compellingly intentional and full of riches ... the Adams are so gifted at filming bleak Americana, corpses, cloudy days, and rotting hands. Aug 11, 2023 Full Review Alexandra Heller-Nicholas AWFJ.org As Where the Devil Roams proves once again, through their collective artistry and shared passion, the Adams Family create uniquely authentic films that contain a sense of creativity and a love for movies that at its heart remains unwaveringly pure. Jul 31, 2023 Full Review Kevin Wight The Wee Review Where the Devil Roams is wider in scope and more ambitious than its predecessor, and it's combination of oneiric, impressionistic narrative with with the gnarliest of practical gore is irresistible. Matt I Setting aside the horrible special effects and comedic killing scenes, this movie was just plain bad in every other way as well. Don't even get me started with the soundtrack. Lost all trust in critics after seeing the 100% rating. Can't stop scratching my head. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Zoey C It's horrible! Do not watch it sucks ass! How in the world did you fools give it a 100%??? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 04/04/24 Full Review Thom G The Adams family strikes again with an outstanding new entry in the horror genre! Where the Devil Roams is compelling, aesthetically distinct, profound, and creepily twisted. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Anthony D Not sure what happened to this film. I have enjoyed their other films but this movie was one the worst I've ever sat through. Terrible, hope it's just a swing and miss. God awful garbage, sorry Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/26/24 Full Review Elle A This movie is so incredibly cinematic, thoughtful, deep and provocative, and overall such a brilliant watch. It is so intimate and really asks the audience to use their clever minds to explore the nuanced themes of family, trauma, and love. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Kevin L I was pretty knocked out by "The Deeper You Dig" and even moreso by "Hellbender". Felt like this filmmaking family showed quite the knack for effective filmmaking in general, horror in particular. Actual original, fresh ideas and visual work that set them apart from most anyone else in the genre. But "Where the Devil Roams" never connected with me. I could not get into it, try as I might. More than once I started from the beginning, but I was often distracted and even bored. It's just too disjointed with too many stops and starts from the circus to on the road; from their own killings to the battle scenes. It even struck me at times as gruesome for the sake of being gruesome; disturbing without artistry. The 'p' word even came to mind, but it's not really trying to be more significant or of some import it really doesn't get to. That said, of course there were elements and scenes that work. The macabre circus segments are generally good. But just casting some wanna-be Jim Rose sideshow types in goopy makeup and their typical attention-starved tattoos and piercing overkill does not a convincing freak show make for this guy. 2.4 stars Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
