Charles H Where The Red Fern Grows takes on the incredible task of adapting such a beloved work of literature into film format- and does the best it can. It skips over a lot of parts, leaving some book readers who are watching the movie be a bit confused, but it doesn't skip over any major plot points and all the character arcs and major events still get their time on screen. You can tell that this movie didn't have an incredible budget, with some scenes that were incredibly detailed in the book with the dogs behaving incredibly, but in the movie its done a bit simpler. In most parts the movie was well acted and all the emotion seemed genuine, there were few parts where it didn't seem good, but mainly fine. Overall: It doesn't stay ENTIRELY true to the book in its sets and designs, but stays true to its story and delivers it to the screen well. 8/10. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one of the best movies yes I am just a 14 year old but I know good movies and this is one of them Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member A real classic. I loved this movie when I was kid. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/10/23 Full Review Audience Member I think there's another genre out there called Dog Movies. Sadly, many of them seem to run on autopilot because they just use the same tactics. Some family drama and a cute dog. Not The Red Fern. This movie is beautiful. We see the development of Billy, his dogs, and others throughout the movie and all the things they go through. There is some drama, but there's also some philosophy and mature themes. And to top it all off, we have two of the best dog actors playing Old Dan and Little Ann. So I implore you to watch this. Either by yourself, with a friend, maybe your lover, your kids, or the whole family Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Where the red fern grows is an amazing idea for a film, itâ(TM)s an amazing powerful adventure with a few jokes here and there, although there was one scene where the boom mic was clearly visible, but thatâ(TM)s not enough to ruin this classic film.
