Julian (Julian Sands), a Uruguayan diplomat, brings his new wife, Nina (Renée Soutendijk), with him on a business trip to Poland in the summer immediately preceding the outbreak of World War II. While Julian is consumed with work, Nina practices photography and other recreations, but after suffering a fall while horse riding, she begins to have disturbing hallucinations and premonitions of a coming danger that eventually comes to pass once Poland is invaded by the Germans.
