Nell Minow Movie Mom Rated: B+ Feb 18, 2012 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle Though the film seems less like a theatrical release and more like something that might play on an obscure PBS station at 2 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon, it's reasonably interesting as a personality study. Rated: 2/4 Sep 23, 2010 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times An unabashed celebration of geekitude, idealism and the will to win. Rated: 3/5 Jun 4, 2010 Full Review David Harris Spectrum Culture When compared to the aged, harrowed scientists who judge the competition, the fading precociousness and optimism that fills these students is refreshing and something Kelydra, Ana and Harmain are lucky to have harnessed in Whiz Kids. Rated: 3/5 Oct 24, 2019 Full Review Beth Accomando KPBS.org Harmain is one of three students that filmmaker Tom Shepherd focuses on. Their youthful enthusiasm, and impressive enterprise and intelligence are downright inspiring. Dec 10, 2010 Full Review Ron Wilkinson Monsters and Critics "Spellbound" taken to far greater heights. A touching and honest portrayal of the fight to be the best in the least glitzy business in America---science. Rated: 7/10 Jul 9, 2010 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Three young scientists compete for the most prestigious youth science prize in the country in this documentary that follows their journey from regional science fairs to the final competition. Follows in the footsteps of other such documentaries as SPELLBOUND and MAD HOT BALLROOM, and while the stakes here are much higher and the subject much deeper, it ultimately has a "been there, done that" feel to it.
