What to Know

Critics Consensus

For filmgoers predisposed to enjoy Todd Solondz' brand of black comedy, Wiener-Dog won't disappoint -- but those put off by previous works need not apply.

Solondz loves revisiting his creations (he did it in Life During Wartime and, glancingly, Palindromes). Alas, he never improves on the originals. Go to Full Review

Wiener-Dog is a mordantly funny tour of the human condition seen from the low-slung position of a sausage dog. Go to Full Review

It is a movie with a hard core of disillusionment. Go to Full Review

With this collection of characters for an anthology set-up, Wiener-Dog is just about the Todd Solondz-iest film you could expect from writer-director Todd Solondz, but there is an interesting formal setup to set it apart from the more standard formula... Go to Full Review

For lack of a better term, this is a filmmaker being an a**hole because he can and he doesn’t care. You will either champion or loathe that supposed brilliance and brashness. Go to Full Review

Slight and stilted in parts, hilarious and memorable in others, all held together by a brilliant Danny DeVito. Go to Full Review

Kristy M Aug 17 If you are a fan of "Welcome to the Dollhouse" so much as to have viewed it repeatedly, this film is on the same track. Although it would be a good watch going in blindly, having the character knowledge makes it great. See more Arija W @scaryfannaticgirl88 Aug 4 This movie severely made me question humanity. The cute, sweet and calm wiener dog who in the beginning was clearly with humans who have zero patience and should just go get a cat..I’m not even certain they could even handle a cat. This wiener dog was passed around like a white elephant gift. The only difference is people tend to be happy when they indulge in such festivities. I like the actors and the acting however, the plot was lack luster and bounced around entirely too often which, made it difficult to connect to the characters or to the movie in general. I was disappointed with the ending as well. I’m not quite sure who rated this movie so high. I feel like we must have been watching a different movie. If you want a feel good dog movie this movie is not the one to choose. See more Jian B Jul 29 A granola bar does NOT do all that. See more MX D Mar 7 Awful movie…stupid and nasty. See more Isa B 12/02/2024 This film was rather disappointing. It was hardly funny and I found the stories to be mostly uninteresting. There wasn't even a direct chain of narration on the dog changing hands. I am a big fan of Todd Solondz and I love what he did with Happiness and Welcome to the Dollhouse, but Wiener-Dog missed the mark for me. I do not recommend. 52/100 See more Read all reviews
