Gene Wilder shines as Willy Wonka and remains the best actor to play the legendary chocolatier. While certain aspects, such as the special effects, look dated compared to what today's advancements in filmmaking technology can achieve, the music and characters continue to resonate with viewers several generations later.

From all of the behind the scenes trouble, changing what Dahl wrote not just for the film, but also from his book, having unbearable actors, and having the tone all wrong it is going to always pale in comparison to the 2005 Burton classic adaptation.

Rewatched it today and introduced it to my wife who had never seen it. The movie still holds up even after all of these years. There's an emotional authenticity rarely mimicked in contemporary films. Much prefer it to the Burton remake.

What else to say? My amazement is generational, but finding out more about the film makes it even better. Let's just say this may be the greatest film ever made to promote a corporate candy bar, which ultimately melted. Gene Wilder, Best. Wonka. Ever.
