Audience Member I saw Wings and the Woman by accident on Turner Classic Movies. I turned on the set for a few minutes before returning to working on my latest book. I thought. But I couldn't turn this 1942 movie off. I kept comparing its heroine, Amy Johnson (Anna Neagle), to Christopher Strong (Katharine Hepburn), 1933. Wings and the Woman gave so much more respect to Amy's desires as an achieving woman than did Christopher Strong, a very different aviatrix, though not as much as I would hope a 2020 film would portray. also enjoyed seeing Robert Newton as a dashing leading man instead of as a character actor (the "Har Har" pirate Long John Silver in Treasure Island, 1950). Neagle and Newton had an interesting chemistry. Christopher Strong is one of the darlings of feminist film criticism; Wings and the Woman should be too.
