Too much Sergei Eisenstein and not enough England. A low-budget production with plenty of flaws. Stiil, there's a great story at the heart of this movie and it's worth a look if you're interested in social movements like Occupy and mutual aid organizing.

One of the best films on the English Civil War era and on the early religious-based socialist ideas of Gerrard Winstanley, leader of the Diggers or "True Levellers" who advocated for people living and growing communally on common land.

Interesting look at Gerrard Winstanley's attempts to establish a self-sufficient community on common land in the aftermath of the Civil War. With an amateur cast, some performers are clearly better than others, but the dialogue and narration, largely taken from Winstanley's own writings, make this a compelling insight into a tumultuous period in English history. This tale outsiders being persecuted and crushed by the powers that be should resonate strongly with modern audiences.
