Norwegian millionaire Hjalmar Ostgaard (S.Z. Sakall) and his niece, Nora (Sonja Henie), an amateur skating champion, arrive in Canada to wait for their emigration status to America to clear. The co-owner of the faltering Chateau Promenade, Skip Hutton (Jack Oakie), hopes to fool the pair into investing in the hotel, but his honest partner, Freddy Austin (Cornel Wilde), insists on telling the truth. Attracted to Freddy's candor, Nora joins in his and Skip's scheme to ensnare her father.
