In New Orleans, Emily (Madison Iseman) and her fiancé Christian (Aaron Dominguez) are opening their new dream café. But their dreams are dashed when Emily finds an ancient, cursed Witchboard, an ancient artifact that once served as a gateway to the spirit world. As Emily becomes increasingly captivated by the board's ability to summon spirits, Christian seeks the expertise of Alexander Babtiste (Jamie Campbell Bower), an enigmatic occult scholar. As Emily's grip on reality weakens, Babtiste's true intentions come to light--to use the Witchboard's dark power for his own twisted purposes. Culminating in a decadent masked ball at Babtiste's mansion, the line between temptation and terror blurs as Emily and Christian find themselves trapped in a deadly web of witchcraft and dark desires. J Hurtado ScreenAnarchy Though it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, Russell’s Witchboard is a perfectly decent – if a little long – stab at the haunted item subgenre that should satisfy fans of the earlier franchise. Aug 27, 2024 Full Review Deirdre Crimmins Rue Morgue Magazine It prioritizes madness and commotion over artistry or coherence, and comes away successful in that quest. It is hard to ding a film that refuses to take itself too seriously. Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Rob Hunter Film School Rejects Witchboard is an okay romp, a slightly better one if Chuck Russell makes some judicious cuts before its eventual release, but it can’t touch the original or even come close to the highs of his own 80s classics. Aug 7, 2024 Full Review Joe Lipsett Bloody Disgusting It's messy and uneven, scattered in both narrative and performance, but fun enough to lightly recommend. Rated: 2.5/5 Jul 30, 2024 Full Review Josh Korngut Dread Central Chuck Russell’s ‘Witchboard’ is a welcome and genuine throwback to the practical-effects-driven horror movies of the late ’90s, like ‘Wishmaster’ and ‘The Relic,’ ‘Hellraiser: Bloodline.’ Rated: 4/5 Jul 27, 2024 Full Review Sarah Musnicky Creepy Kingdom From beginning to end, WITCHBOARD (2024) never ceases to entertain.
