For generations, the Whitlocks and the Laniers have been feuding, including when Vanessa Whitlock (Yvette Rees), accused of being a witch, was buried alive centuries ago. Now Bill Lanier (Jack Hedley) wants to dig up a burial ground for development purposes, and Morgan Whitlock (Lon Chaney Jr.) tries to stop him. Soon, unexplainable accidents start to happen to members of the Lanier family, throwing suspicion on Morgan. The real truth Bill discovers is much more sinister than he expected.

Audience Member Ole=timey but effective and spooky! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review andy f A forgotten gem that is dripping with spooky atmosphere. Lon Chaney and the rest of the cast are terrific in this ghoulish melodrama. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Contemporary vengeance tale with Gothic overtones--A nifty 60's witchcraft horror feature!! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member This is one I need to watch again, I remember it being good, but I don't remember why! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty good little British horror film could easily be seen as corny but can is pretty effective and chilling if you get into the spirit of the film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member When an irresponsible contractor desecrates a graveyard, a witch rises from her tomb and a centuries-old feud between two families (one good, one evil) is reignited. Witchcraft is a good, briskly-paced British horror film with crisp, noirish cinematography, assured direction, and a strong cast. It's a fine example of the tradition of British horror films -- such as Curse of the Demon, The Devil Rides Out, and The Wicker Man -- that are built around the idea of the country's ancient religious traditions still existing in the modern era. This sense of the land of Britain being at once ancient and modern makes these films quite different from their American counterparts; in Hollywood horror films, if the Old World is evoked at all, it is usually foreign (e.g., Transylvania) or steeped in dubious representations of the American Indian (e.g., Poltergeist or Wolfen). Watching a movie like Witchcraft always reminds me of the extent to which modern Britain is defined by its colorful past. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews
