David K This early western (1917) starring and directed by William S. Hart, is not much of a western beyond its setting. The story of unrequited love of a rancher for a squatter is fair. As to the restoration - it's beautiful with only a few unavoidable minor glitches. Overall, the pictures are sharp. There are problems with some of the scenes being way too dark and there is some obvious wear in places, but still an enjoyable viewing. One exception - the piano score is totally inconsistent with the production itself. More background music for your dinner party, it is an overall negative in its' efforts to do what scores are supposed to do - elevate and enhance the mood of the film. Finally, the running time must be a placeholder. While I didn't time it, the film comes in around one hour, not one minute, obviously. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/28/25 Full Review Read all reviews
