kathy j As much as I love viewing the British countryside again and again I'm a city girl at heart and movies like this make me happy once again to have been born in an American ghetto with it's different problems. The quiet hell of the unfortunate in " the woods" makes me profoundly sad. I admire the characters' grit and maturity-such good performances from the cast. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Kevin L Good flick. Foy and Cumberbatch have strong chemistry, helping to solidify their relationship for the viewer. Shaun Evans is good here, too, as the disheveled shell of a brother, Nick. The support in general is fine from McDonald, Matthews, and others. Director/writer D. R. Hood is able to wring out quite a lot of the themes/ideas about family secrets and their dangers, and how much we may well not know about even those people we're the closest to. The family and community dynamics are drawn out slowly and convincingly. Foy's Dawn is a natural caregiver, empathetic and patient. Makes her the one all the fellas want for their own in a way. Sort of a small film, concentrating on the ways we hide and live with our painful pasts, and how to find comfort and healing in the now. But also dealing with those who we may not be ableto help, and how tough that can be to cope with. 3.3 stars Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Slow paced but not boring. It keeps your attention until the last minute and left you to think by the ending. A beautiful and thought provoking film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review roger g Slow and typically British-boring. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member One top reviews said it -- everyone was just so horrible to each other. A redeeming quality I found though was in that one Benedict Cumberbatch scene in the beginning :) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This film has been quite torturous to watch - very depressing. Surely in modern day and age there is electricity in English countryside rather than continual darkness? Surely not everyone sleeps with everyone and not everyone in the village has monstrous secrets to hide? There was very little in the film that was convincing. There were some nice country scenes though. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Empire Magazine Rated: 3/5 Dec 16, 2011 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian For her debut feature, British film-maker Dictynna Hood has created a brooding drama of rural disquiet and sexual tension. Rated: 3/5 Dec 15, 2011 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) In a year already stacked with accomplished British debuts, DR Hood's smart, engrossing and well-acted Wreckers deserves to be more than a footnote. Rated: 3/5 Dec 15, 2011 Full Review Joseph Walsh CineVue It's clear to see that Hood's skill lies very much as a director. Rated: 3/5 Aug 24, 2018 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) It's a promising film. Dec 18, 2011 Full Review David Aldridge Radio Times Wreckers blends spells of sheer, watching-paint-dry tedium with sparkier inter-sibling stuff and the odd bout of rural rumpy-pumpy.
