Ken Jaworowski New York Times Mr. Davidman ends up not far from where he begins - his first line is "It's complicated." But that doesn't mean nothing is gained. Sep 12, 2017 Full Review Sheri Linden The Hollywood Reporter The proceedings become so densely packed with history, opinion and firsthand experience that they cry out for a more subdued, straightforward approach. May 16, 2017 Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times All the inter-cutting between the barren stage and the barren desert ultimately has a distancing, artificial effect that waters down much of the dramatic potency generated by the shared experience of a live performance. Audience Member Enjoyed this movie. Something different. Interesting insights. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member If you are Jewish it is fine. If you are not, don't bother. There is no balance. I saw the showing with the writer and a Q&A. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member "Wrestling Jerusalem" is a play and a film which recognizes that one person's subjective reality may clash someone else's; one person's physical and emotional needs may conflict with someone else's. This is what causes conflict. then when violence is used, it forces the other person to defend him/herself with violence as well. In order to resolve conflict non-violently, we need the courage to listen to the other side and hear not just their anger and their demands, but the pain and fear underneath; the longing for "home," the fear of annihilation, etc. Aaron Davidman embodies the pain, the fears, the longings, and the beliefs which animate the various "sides" of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. He recognizes how traumatized both peoples are by now, and his film encourages us to see and hear the heart-rending feelings which are beneath the surface. Listening and trying to understand will lead us toward a solution, But no solution can be found in violence or in trying to convince the other side that they are "wrong." Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member I was privileged to see the filming of this in San Francisco, and subsequently, the film itself at a premier in SF. I liked it as much or more the second time around. So much so that I bought the script. There are some gems. It is worth it just for the opening monologue, and the story of babies being intoned by the stress and look in their mother's eyes. They learn to feel safe or scared from that early interaction. Powerful! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member It was a moving experience right from the beginning! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This fantastic production faithfully illustrates many the complexities surrounding the holy city of Jerusalem. Aaron Davidman is complex force to be reckoned with, a font of anger, sadness, hope, confusion as thousands of years of strife are peeled back.
