Nancy Banks-Smith Guardian I don't know Sheridan Le Fanu - not to speak to, that is - which makes the whole thing much jollier and less predictable. Feb 25, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This was actually quite interesting - though certainly not top notch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Naomi Watts is beautiful, sexy and wonderful to watch on the screen!! she has a such a natural presence! unfortunately.. this movie irratated the hell out of me. i didn't understand this creature. i didn't get her purpose. why exactly is she haunting Alice specifically?? i just never got that. and the whole thing with the baby. what was that about? why were they targetting the baby? what does that have to do with anything?? and Squire.. well ok he had impure thoughts. he wanted to marry his own daughter.. twisted but not disgusting. so i never really hated him the way i thought i would and he does redeem himself in the end so i thought Derek Jacobi gave a strong performance! but just too many loopholes.. things that didn't make any sense. just a mess of a movie which is too bad i went out of my way to see it. i love Naomi Watts though!! one of the best of our generation!! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I love anything with Derek Jacobi in it but even he couldn't save this movie. The script struggled and lost me several times. Plots and sub-plots wandered all over the place. Naomi Watts' acting was atrocious (especially the parts where she seemed to "throw in" a little prayer). Jack Davenport ran here/there in the movie but I never could quite place his role until the end and then it seemed more of an afterthought. And the madwoman chained in the basement??...I found out how she got scarred but not why they were keeping her in the basement? Was she a wife or a mistress? Was she the one who had the original baby that drowned? And what is up with locking Naomi Watts in the attic?...that was NEVER explained! Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member let's take a bit of "Jane Eyre" and a bit of "Rebecca" but not make it so good. A bit of a waste of time, despite some good name actors. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I was so disappointed with the ending and the overall execution. A bit eerie but definitely not scary. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member This was actually quite interesting - though certainly not top notch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
